TobyMac has become a well-known and beloved artist to fans worldwide. For decades, his music has resonated in the hearts of his listeners for a variety of reasons. Songs like “Speak Life” and “Steal My Show” challenge audiences to live for the Lord through their words and heart postures, while songs like “Faithfully” and “Promised Land” invite us to reflect and trust the Lord even when things are so much harder than we ever expected.
His undeniable talent has been further affirmed through the many awards and vast recognition he has received. Today, TobyMac has seven Grammy Awards, six Dove Awards, and 2 Billboard Music Awards (not including the many others he was nominated for). And yet, with all his recognition, it’s clear that his greatest accomplishment is using his gifts to honor the Lord and lead others to Him.
From joyful songs to belt out in the car to sorrowful contemplations of his soul, TobyMac continues to use his music for God with refreshing honesty and rich lyrics. And the world is better for it.
Heaven on My Mind
When tragic things happen in our lives, persisting in our trust in the Lord can be one of the hardest things we do. Over the last several years, TobyMac has boldly shared his own walk through grief and wrestling with the Lord. With every new song, fans have received glimpses of his heartbreak alongside deep truths about faith. Both of these elements appear again in his newest song, Heaven on My Mind.
Heaven on My Mind is full of upbeat and catchy lyrics that describe TobyMac’s longing for heaven while living here. Listeners get to “walk” with him as he daydreams about Heaven and listens to the birds sing. As real as this life is, TobyMac knows there “ain’t no way this place is my home”. He looks forward to the people he’ll see, to the golden streets he’ll walk, and to the knowledge that he’ll never have to leave.
What a wonderful truth that is to treasure in our hearts: everything here is temporary, but when we get to Heaven, we’ll finally be home. And once we’re home, we’ll get to stay.
