Persevering in our faith is hard. Trusting the Lord in our suffering is hard. And yet, as Tenth Avenue North describes these deep and troubling things, their joy is impossible to ignore. How can they be so upbeat when singing about something so painful? The answer is simple but rarely feels easy to hold onto: the joy Tenth Avenue North has—and that we can have—comes from the Lord.
So often, we don’t understand why God has allowed (or hasn’t allowed) something to happen in our lives. We don’t get the promotion, we don’t marry the person we love, we receive a devastating diagnosis, we lose our house… and the list goes on. And in all of these moments, we wonder where God could possibly be that He hasn’t stepped in to save us. What we don’t see is the blessing He’s bringing through our suffering.

Our God is good, and He is faithful. He doesn’t always prevent the hardships in our lives, but He always works them for the good of those who love Him. May we all be able to trust in the Lord, drawing closer to Him when the road looks dark and saying, “I go where the Spirit Goes.”
