The song, I’ll Be Okay by Lydia Laird, is the latest release from her first self-titled album which was released in August 2020.
Lydia is from East Texas, but her family served as missionaries in Romania when she was young. She’s the 7th child of 10 and she remembers becoming a Christian at the age of 4. Lydia wrote her first song when she was 9 years old. You can learn more about Lydia on her website, LydiaLaird.com.
Lydia wrote I’ll Be Okay from a place of depression and anxiety, and it is a good reminder of God’s presence with us in the dark places. In this song, she is being open and vulnerable about her personal struggles. Lydia shares that even though she can see the storm and hear the thunder, she knows she’ll be okay because “He (Jesus) is in the boat with me.”
In the following video, Lydia tells the story behind the song, I’ll Be Okay.
If you’ve ever suffered loss or were overwhelmed with feelings of hopelessness, you can relate to this song. Lydia reminds us that God is with us and we will be okay. However, even if you don’t feel like you’ll be okay, you can relate to the bridge where she asks God to “make me okay.” Lydia has listed organizations, apps, books, music, podcasts, and more for people like her who struggle with mental health on her website. Give me peace when I am tossed and frightened Lost among the waves Give me hope when I am doubt and fears are Clouding up my faith Would You come and move the mountains 'Cause I'm too weak to climb Promise that You're with me in this fight I can hear the thunder, but I'm okay 'Cause You're with me I know You will cover me, I'll be safe 'Cause You're with me I'll be okay I'll be okay I'll be okay I'll be okay Tragedy could hold the sharpest blade Against my skin Threatening to open all the wounds I've tried to mend Would You come and be the healer That I know I've seen before You've promised me that I can be restored CHORUS Make me okay Make me okay Make me okay Make me okay
