As the summer heat waves roll across California, we hope the music at KAMB rolls across your hearts. What better way to relax away from the sun than worshiping our Lord? (We couldn’t think of one, either!) So, do yourself a favor and take a few minutes to reflect on the Lord’s faithfulness no matter where you are today. One of the best ways to do this is to listen to Praise You Anywhere by Brandon Lake.
Brandon Lake was born and raised in South Carolina and currently lives there with his family while serving as a worship leader. He released his first studio albums in 2015 and 2016, but his popularity exploded through his collaborations. Lake’s first co-written song that gained traction was “This Is a Move” which he released with Tasha Cobbs Leonard. The project landed him the Dove Award for song of the year in 2019. Since then, Lake has worked with other artists such as Elevation Worship, Maverick City Music, Brooke Ligertwood, and others. Each opportunity has resulted in powerful worship full of heartfelt praise and stirring lyrics. Some of his most popular songs include “Graves into Gardens,” “Talking to Jesus,” and “Honey in the Rock.” He was nominated for several Dove Awards and received two of them following his work on these songs and more. Lake has also released his own albums, House of Miracles, and his latest single, Praise You Anywhere.
Praise You Anywhere powerfully reminds us to give God our praise in every circumstance. It can be really easy to offer God our joy in worship when things are going well. But Lake reminds us that we are to set our minds towards praise even when we don’t want to. His message is immediately strengthened through the opening lyrics in Praise You Anywhere. Lake references famous Bible stories of great of peril and faith as moments of greatest praise. Whether we find ourselves in the fire like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in a lions’ den like Daniel, or before a giant like David, we are to praise our Lord. Most of us haven’t faced such dramatic threats as these, but we have all battled against confusion, disappointment, and heartache.
Rather than using his song to chastise the believer, though, Lake uses it to encourage. Praise You Anywhere pulls us away from the shadow of our miseries and into the light of God’s faithfulness. It reminds us to position our hearts in praise during the best of times and the worst of times because our God is Lord over them all. Our seasons vary and some of our joys may fade, but our God never does. Instead of focusing on the bitterness of life, we should fix our eyes upon Him and His unchanging nature. When we do, we remember all the good we’ve ever seen our God do and say we’ll Praise You Anywhere.
