Tax Talk… at Christmas?

Believe it or not, talking taxes at Christmas dates to the first Christmas. Luke 2 recounts the declaration of Caesar Augustus taking a census of the entire Roman world. So, what does a census have to do with taxes? Even today as it was in the time of Christ, a major reason for a census is to assist in the collection of taxes to support government programs utilized by its citizens. In short, Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem in preparation for the taxes they would eventually pay.
Charitable giving and filing your 2022 taxes in the new year…
Recently, the Internal Revenue Service issued two articles in a series designed to prepare taxpayers that will file 2022 tax returns. You’ll find those articles here and here. Of note, the IRS reminded readers to report all income, including income from part-time work, side or “gig” jobs, and the sale of goods. It also said that refunds will likely be smaller this year as there were no Economic Income Payments for 2022 and the probable inability to deduct charitable donations.
