The Genesis of the Idea
In The Matthew West Podcast, Me on Your Mind, Matthew describes “the very Genesis of the idea” behind this song. He was in a writing session with Jeff Pardo and Anne Wilson. At the end of one of their sessions for her album, he told them had this title that he wanted to write for his record. Finally, they were all about to go home, and this song was just coming out of him, and he knew he needed to write it then. As he said, the song was just “bubbling up.” On the podcast, he plays the recording of those initial moments and it’s quite powerful.
The heart behind “Me on Your Mind” comes from Psalms 8:3-4 "When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?"

Matthew says that Satan loves these two letters: “UN”. Instead of loved, he tries to put these two letters in front of it to make you feel like you’re un-loved. Instead of welcome: un-welcome; Forgiven: un-forgiven; Known: un-known. The truth is that God is thinking of us. God would leave the 99 to look for the one – YOU. The thief on the cross asking for mercy received it from Christ even as He was dying. The father of the Prodigal didn’t wait for him to come to him and beg; he ran to meet him on the road. God thinks about you! Your prayers don’t bounce off the ceiling. He loves to hear your voice!
LYRICS – Me on Your Mind
I've read the words in red How You leave the ninety-nine To find the one missing, feels like that was written With me on Your mind And the prodigal son who ran Leaving his home behind The part were the father came running to meet him Did You say that with me on Your mind? CHORUS Who am I that the King of the world Would give one single thought about my broken heart? Who am I that the God of all grace Wipes the tears from my face and says, "Come as you are"? You paid the price, You took thе cross You gave Your life and You did it all With me on Your mind (Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh) Mе on Your mind (Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh) Just knowing You're mindful of me Just knowing You call me Your child It's flooding my soul with unspeakable hope Thank You, Lord, that it's me on Your mind CHORUS I've read the words in red Of a Heavenly home on Earth You're preparing a place where the sorrows erased And when I stand before You, I'll find All along, it was me on Your mind CHORUS
