We love this song because Anne shares the clear message of God’s love in any and every situation. As you would introduce a friend, Anne introduces everyone to a very personal Savior, she calls, ‘My Jesus!’
This is what Anne shared on the radio about her song:
Hey! This is Anne Wilson, and this is the story behind my new song, “My Jesus”.
A few years ago, I went through a season of tragedy. My older brother, Jacob, (he was my best friend and someone I looked up to in every way), lost his life in a car accident at the age of 23. I can remember that night so vividly. Police officers were standing at the front door, and I knew at that moment that something had gone wrong. I walked into the living room, and I saw my parents were in complete and total despair.
That night I heard God’s voice so clear, and He spoke to me for the first time. He said, “Anne, are you going to trust me or not?” I answered, “Jesus, I trust you.” In an instant Jesus lifted the heavy weight off and told me that He would give me everything I would need to get through this. Journaling became part of my healing process. Jesus began to show me that He was a personal God. Before I knew it, I had also started turning those journal entries into songs. As I was writing one day I looked back into my journal and realized I never wrote just ‘Jesus’, ‘God’, or ‘Lord.’ I always wrote ‘my Jesus’ and that’s what inspired me to write this song.
When people hear this song, I want them to feel that Jesus is personal. And while our stories may look different, the same Jesus that I call, ‘my Jesus’, can be ‘your Jesus’ too.
Through her song, My Jesus, Anne shares how Jesus is the answer to our burdens, suffering, and shame. She tells us that He can tell the past to disappear and work it all for our good. Anne has experienced this first-hand through the tragic death of her brother, Jacob. She began singing to God and worshiping through her pain. She performed a song before an audience for the first time at her brother’s funeral. That’s when she knew the calling God had placed on her life to sing for Him. Although she doesn’t have all the answers to life’s tragedies, Anne doesn’t blame God. Instead, she leans on His love and grace, and implores you to let Jesus change your life!
Song Lyrics
Are you past the point of weary? Is your burden weighin' heavy? Is it all too much to carry? Let me tell you 'bout my Jesus Do you feel that empty feeling? 'Cause shame's done all its stealin' And you're desperate for some healin' Let me tell you 'bout my Jesus CHORUS He makes a way where there ain't no way Rises up from an empty grave Ain't no sinner that He can't save Let me tell you 'bout my Jesus His love is strong and His grace is free And the good news is I know that He Can do for you what He's done for me Let me tell you 'bout my Jesus And let my Jesus change your life Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah, Amen Amen Who can wipe away the tears From broken dreams and wasted years And tell the past to disappear? Oh Let me tell you 'bout my Jesus And all the wrong turns that you would Go and undo if you could Who can work it all for your good Let me tell you about my Jesus CHORUS Who would take my cross to Calvary? Pay the price for all my guilty? Who would care that much about me? Let me tell you 'bout my Jesus, oh CHORUS
