From her early teenage years to her adult life now, Katy Nichole has always felt closest to the Lord when she sings: “My earliest memories of feeling the Lord’s presence were when I was singing and when I had a song in my heart” (centricitymusic.com). Although her passion developed early, Nichole believed she would only pursue music as a hobby and decided to pursue a career in the medical field. However, she quickly realized that God was calling her to focus on her singing and songwriting instead.
This became especially clear when she experienced miraculous healing after having a surgery to undo the original corrective surgery’s impact on her spine as a teenager. “When I got my X-rays after surgery, my spine was actually straighter than when the rods had been in it. So when I say that God can do miracles, I mean it, because I’ve seen it” (centricitymusic.com). From that point forward, Nichole used her songwriting skills to serve the Lord and point others to His truth and power. After posting a chorus to TikTok, Nichole received attention from other CCM songwriters who collaborated with her to complete “In Jesus Name (God of Possible”.
Today, Katy Nichole continues to use her music to point others to the Lord and the truth of His miraculous healing. Her latest song is called Have Your Way.
Have Your Way
When do you find yourself most desperate for the Lord? Is it when things are going really well? When they’re really tough? What brings you to the place where you finally say, “Okay, Lord. Not my will, but Yours”?
This song is Katy Nichole’s answer to that last question. And she makes it clear that her response isn’t easy or untried. In the opening verse of Have Your Way, Nichole sings, “I’ve run from my Father, I’ve run back again / Time after time after time.” Her walk with God hasn’t been paved in sunshine and clear skies. Clearly, she has struggled, and she has had moments where she hasn’t trusted God to be in control. Haven’t we all? The powerful thing about Nichole singing Have Your Way, though, is that she didn’t let her story end with her own ways. Instead, she came back to the Father again and now pleas with God to have His way in her life, every time.
Friends, this isn’t an easy thing to do. When we are in the middle of a storm, all we want is to get out of it by any means necessary. And often, prayer doesn’t seem like it’s doing very much or moving very fast. And yet, as Katy Nichole describes, it isn’t until we lay everything down at the Father’s feet that we are finally uplifted—because He is the one carrying us. And He will be the one carrying and leading us every time we surrender to Him and say Have Your Way.

Lyrics
I’ve crawled through the valley of the shadow of death
And somehow I walked out alive
I’ve run from my Father I’ve run back again
Time after time after time
One thing I have found
I rise when I lay it down
Lord, have Your way in my life
In my heart, in my soul, in my mind
Lord, have Your way every time
‘Cause I know that Your plans are better than mine
I lift up my hands and I fall on my knees
Surrendering I’ll sing it
Lord, have Your way in me
Your blessings fall on me like rain on a garden
I sink in an ocean of grace
How kind are Your mercies
How faithful Your heart is
You hold my tomorrow today
Lord, have Your way in my life
In my heart, in my soul, in my mind
Lord, have Your way every time
‘Cause I know that Your plans are better than mine
I lift up my hands and I fall on my knees
Surrendering I’ll sing it
Lord, have Your way in me
Whoa
Lord, let Your kingdom come
Lord, let Your will be done
Jesus, You’re all I want
Jesus, You’re more than enough
You’re more than enough
Lord, have Your way in my life
In my heart, in my soul, in my mind
Lord, have Your way every time
‘Cause I know that Your plans are better than mine
I lift up my hands and I fall on my knees
Surrendering I’ll sing it
Lord, have Your way in me
Oh, Lord have Your way in me
Lord, have Your way
Lord, have Your way in me
