Wouldn’t it be great if nothing tragic ever happened to us and we could always be happy? I often believe it would be. But if life was always good and peaceful, we would have a really hard time believing that we need God. Even though He also uses good things to draw us close to Him, seeing God move in our pain strengthens our faith in a different way than joy does. In his new song The Fall, Josh Wright describes the blessing waiting for us in our suffering.
Josh Wright
Josh Wright spent his childhood in Celeste, Texas on his family’s small cattle farm. From an early age, he showed great interest in music and seized the few opportunities he had to exercise his talents. From singing in his home church as a toddler to taking formal piano lessons through his adolescence, Wright quickly expanded his musical knowledge. He desired to use his music for faith-filled purposes and pursued this dream with great love. Despite his natural talents, Wright stepped back from music when his father was diagnosed with two types of throat cancer. Following his father’s passing, Wright earned a Bachelor’s in Music at Belmont University. During his time in college, Wright had many unique opportunities. According to his website, Wright was featured in seven showcases, interacted with Steven Curtis Chapman and other CCM artists, performed on award-winning records, and sang the National Anthem for the Vice President of the United States.
Following these events and several others in his music career, Wright stepped away from music again when his younger brother died in a car accident. For 12 years afterwards, Wright established a life for himself away from music. His faith strengthened greatly during these years, and he invested in his church through ministry and leadership. Through all of these great successes and joys, Wright felt the Lord calling him back to music. Now, in 2025, Wright has returned to his first passion with his new song, The Fall.
The Fall
Our lives are full of unexpected things. Some are wonderful and brimming with joy. Others are sorrowful and heartbreaking. Yet, all of them weave together as the story of our lives. When you consider the pieces of your story, which ones stand out the most? Which ones have drawn you closer to God? I bet it wasn’t just the happy ones.
In his new song The Fall, Josh Wright peels back layers of hurt to reveal a deeper truth for our hearts. Wright openly admits that he’s been through things that he never wanted to experience. Like us, Wright knows the pain of loss and heartbreak; he knows what it means to be brought low. But he also knows what being at your lowest moment can bring: intimacy with the Lord. Wright understands that his most desperate moments are the reason that he knows Jesus so deeply today. Without understanding loss, hopelessness, or surrender, Wright wouldn’t know the raw hope in Christ that he now clings to.
God uses even our worst moments to draw us to Him. Nothing is out of His reach or wasted in His sight. He meets us in our pain as no one else can, and He teaches us to call upon His name. Just like Wright, the Lord uses The Fall to speak to us in our suffering and walks through it with us by His grace.

Lyrics
I didn′t want the valley
I didn’t want the dark
I didn′t want a story
Of wounds and broken hearts
Nobody wants to stumble
Or ever hit the ground
Nobody wants to have to hurt
For healing to be found
But I see it when I look back now
And I can tell you this without a doubt
If I never hit rock bottom
If I never lost my way
If I never had to hit my knees
And call upon Your name
Then I wouldn’t know You, Jesus
Not the way I do today
I wouldn’t really know Your love at all
If I didn′t know the fall
You heard me when I called you
You met me in my need
When I was barely holding on, Lord
You held on to me
And I can see it when I look back now
And I can tell you this without a doubt
If I never hit rock bottom
If I never lost my way
If I never had to hit my knees
And call upon Your name
Then I wouldn′t know You, Jesus
Not the way I do today
I wouldn’t really know your love at all
If I didn′t know the fall
If I didn’t know the fall
If I didn′t know the sleepless nights (ooh-ooh)
The tears I cried (ooh-ooh)
The moments when I questioned why (ooh)
‘Cause through it all (ooh-ooh)
You stayed right by my side (ooh-ooh)
If I never hit rock bottom
If I never lost my way
If I never had to hit my knees
And call upon Your name
Then I wouldn′t know You, Jesus
Not the way I do today
I wouldn’t really know Your love at all
No, no, I wouldn’t really know Your love at all
If I didn′t know the fall
