From songs like “I Still Believe” and “He Knows”, Jeremy Camp is well-known to both seasoned and new listeners alike. Today, Camp has released 13 studio albums, sold over 7 million albums, received 5 GMA Dove Awards, been nominated for a Grammy, received four ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Awards, and released a movie titled I Still Believe (jeremycamp.com). In his musical success, Camp strives to serve the Lord in everything he does.

His music isn’t for himself but for God. Camp is intentional and honest in every song he writes. He uniquely describes his own struggles with loss, grief, doubt, and anger alongside his deep love for the Lord. Rather than avoid the hard things he’s experienced, Camp leans in and uses them to write compelling songs about God’s faithfulness in his life. This kind of bold honesty is what makes it so easy for listeners to resonate with his music. It’s with this same position of heart that Camp continues to write songs like No Survivors.

No Survivors

How often have you given up a habit or behavior in obedience to the Lord only to find your pride or sense of control still in place? Changing our actions and words for God is important, but doing so without surrendering our hearts is futile. How can we ever be fully transformed by Jesus if we hold onto our old ways of thinking?

This is what Jeremy Camp is getting at in his new song, No Survivors. With a strong melody and purposeful lyrics, Camp confronts the darkness in his own heart. From his ego to his pride and effort for control, he leaves no room for error when he says, “there’s some things that need to die”. And this is true for you and me, too. We cannot proclaim faith in God and stick to our selfish ambition at the same time. This is what Paul means when he tells the Ephesians, “You were taught… to put off your old self,… to be made new in the attitude of your minds” (Eph. 4:22-23).

However, just like habits, attitudes of the heart don’t just stop on their own. We have to work against them and replace our old ways with the Lord’s new ways. Calling our sins out by name, as Camp does in No Survivors, is the only way to start. We must recognize and accept the flaws within our own hearts before we can do anything about them. The best news is that once we admit where we fall short, the Lord is right there to help us fight through it. By His grace and provision, those old things will die. It may take days or years, but when we fight with the Lord on our side, we already know the victory is ours.

Jeremy Camp - No Survivors (Music Video)

Lyrics

I’m at war with my humanity
Trying to reclaim my sanity
Nothing in my veins but vanity
It’s the same old, same old

You told me it’s Your battle, God, so I need You to fight
‘Cause if I’m gonna live then there’s some things that need to die

My ego, my pride
My grip on my life
Throw it all into the fire
And leave no survivors
Survivors

Somebody give my past my sympathies (woo)
Tell the old me I’m not missing me (woo)
He can call, but I’m not listening (woo)
To the same old, same old

My ego, my pride
My grip on my life
Throw it all into the fire
And leave no survivors
Survivors

You’re pushing back the dark to get me closer to the light
Somebody tell my enemies there’s nowhere left to hide
You told me it’s Your battle, God, so I need You to fight
‘Cause if I’m gonna live, then there’s some things that need to die

My ego, my pride
My grip on my life
Throw it all into the fire
And leave no survivors
Survivors

‘Cause if I’m gonna live then there’s some things that need to die (survivors)
Survivors
Throw it all into the fire
And leave no survivors
