Bodie: Heaven Knows I Tried

Do you ever find yourself desperately trying to make something happen and it just isn’t working? Maybe it’s a relationship and if you could just say the right thing it would all be better. Maybe it’s taking on as many jobs as possible to afford that purchase you made months ago. Whatever your “it” is… are you tired of trying to figure it out alone yet? This is the place the Lord ultimately brought Bodie to in his faith, and it’s the basis of Heaven Knows I Tried.

Throughout the song, Bodie describes all of the ways he tried to do things his own way. From listening to his feelings to trying to be the one in control, Bodie knows what it means to walk down one’s own path instead of the Lord’s. And he also knows what it looks like once you finally surrender to the Lord, too. Once we are in agreement with the direction of God’s leading, nothing can stand against us. The valleys we walk through, the hurts we experience, the uncertainty we face… all of it is covered by the faithfulness of God. But first, we have to admit that we don’t have all the answers and then we have to surrender ourselves over to the Lord.

And here’s the best part: God already knows the answers we’re trying so hard to find. Once we come to Him, He smooths out the wrinkles in our lives and reveals the way through that we overlooked so completely without Him. That’s why it’s so important that we don’t let our stories end with Heaven Knows I Tried, but let our testimonies begin with it.
