Ben Fuller

Ben Fuller’s testimony is one of heartbreak and miraculous redemption. Growing up, he helped his father work their family dairy farm in Southern Vermont and sang “to old classic country tunes” to pass the time (benfullerofficial.com). Life on the farm and in his family was hard. To cope with his family’s dynamics as a young adolescent, Fuller began his journey as a drug addict that lasted for 14.5 years. From facing his own near-death experiences to losing his best friend, Fuller had intimate knowledge of addiction’s unforgiving grasp. Everything changed, though, when new friends in Tennessee invited him to church. The moment Fuller heard the Gospel of Jesus changed everything for him.

Today, Fuller is a passionate writer of worship music for the Lord. His songs reflect the harsh reality of where he started to where God has brought him. He knows that Jesus alone has brought him out of the darkness he once walked in, and his “new passion and mission [is] to share his story with the world and all who are ready to listen” (benfullerofficial.com).

Turn

It’s with his mission in mind that Ben Fuller has released his new song, Turn. Every lyric offers us a raw glimpse into what wrestling with God can look like. When we are in a season of joy, it’s easy to praise the Lord. His goodness is overwhelmingly clear, and it often feels like nothing could possibly change that. But when addiction, tragedy, or unexpected circumstances come, it’s often hard to remember or even know who God is. We take matters into our own hands and try to “fix” the problem ourselves. We decide that our strength is enough and that our way is better. It isn’t until we run out of places to go that we finally accept we can’t do it alone. Turn is Fuller’s reminder that the true solution to our suffering is Jesus.

When everything in us says we can handle it, the Lord calls us back to Him. He knows exactly what we need and exactly how to rescue us. But we can’t see the good He has waiting for us until we Turn to Him. It’s only then that He will Turn it all around and lead us through the dark.

Lyrics

I wanted to turn to the bottle
I even drove past the bar
It turns out I’m not strong as I thought
But that’s when I learned that You are

When I’m weak, You are strong
When I fall short, You go on and on
When I run, I can’t run long
‘Cause Your love will chase me down ’til I’ve got

Nowhere to turn but Jesus
I turn it all over
Let You turn it around, turn it around (ooh-ooh)
Screaming my prayers to Heaven
I turn it all over
Won’t You turn it around, turn it around? (Ooh-ooh)

Couldn’t get the words out to worship
But You heard me through the tears
Turns out I never had nothing to prove
And I sure don’t have nothing to fear

When I run, I can’t run long
‘Cause Your love will chase me down ’til I got (ooh-ooh)

Nowhere to turn but Jesus (nowhere to turn but Jesus)
I turn it all over (turn it)
Let You turn it around, turn it around (ooh-ooh)
Screaming my prayers to Heaven (screaming my prayers to Heaven)
I turn it all over (turn it)
Let You turn it around, turn it around (ooh-ooh)

Mm, oh, it’s Your turn to fight
It’s Your turn to speak
Your turn to break every chain off of me
Your turn to be right, Your turn to redeem
Your turn to take all these burdens from me

It’s my turn to heal, my turn to believe
My turn to let go and finally be free
My turn to be loved, my turn to be seen
My turn to let You be the Savior I need

When I’ve got
Nowhere to turn but Jesus
I turn it all over (turn it)
Let You turn it around, turn it around (ooh-ooh)
Screaming my prayers to Heaven (screaming my prayers to Heaven)
I turn it all over (turn it)
Won’t You turn it around, turn it around? (Ooh-ooh)

Screaming my prayers to Heaven (screaming my prayers to Heaven)
I turn it all over (turn it)
Won’t You turn it around, turn it around?
