I hope you enjoyed the Christmas Festival of Music, and as we come out of that rotation and back to the regular scheduled program, I know you will enjoy this new song about strength and trusting in God always. Strong, from Anne Wilson is a song filled with so many thoughts many of us have daily, so I pray it encourages you!
Anne Wilson
Wilson didn’t grow up wanting to be a singer, in fact her dream was not in music at all, she wanted to reach for the stars in another way. The 21-year-old Kentucky native had aspirations of becoming an astronaut until a tragedy changed that course. The death of her brother Jacob in a traffic accident was heartbreaking, but it opened a part of her she didn’t know existed – a soulful singing voice that could be used for God in ways never imagined.
Wilson and some friends performed a mesmerizing rendition of “What A Beautiful Name” at her brothers funeral. It became an overnight sensation on YouTube and eventually was the link that landed her contacts with an agent in Nashville.
“That’s what launched everything,” Anne said. “It went viral in a couple of months in 2017. A lot of things started happening quickly. God did a lot of miracles.”
Strong
Anne Wilson sings about something we all feel: life can be hard sometimes. And if the trials of life were not difficult enough, we often feel the added pressure of having to put on a face and pretend to be okay when we’re not.
We can’t do life on our own–not even the easy parts of life, and certainly not the hard ones. Jesus doesn’t want us to go through anything alone, in fact he asks us to give it him and he will carry us through it. Lean on Jesus and through His strength and grace you can get through it. It reminds me of Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 about a struggle in his own life:
“Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
God’s Word invites us to run to Jesus with our burdens and emotions. You don’t have to be strong on your own. When you are weak, then you are strong, because His strength is made perfect in your weakness.
Song Lyrics
Strong, try to make 'em all think I'm strong Yeah, the face I keep putting on says I ain't tired But these tear-stained eyes ain't lying 'Cause hard, nobody told me life could be so hard A weary soul with a worn out heart that's barely beating But every time I get that feeling I hit my knees with my hands held high Saying, "Dear Lord, Jesus, you know I can't do this on my own I can't do this on my own" Lord knows I've tried, but I'm good at falling down Thank God you're good at picking me up off the ground The world's gonna try to break me But I know the one who makes me Strong Strong, like my daddy always told me so There's a place you can always go when you got nothing And then he handed me the one thing That's strong, doesn't matter how old it gets There's power in the words in red in this old bible And when I'm desperate for revival I hit my knees with my hands held high Saying, "Dear Lord, Jesus, you know I can't do this on my own I can't do this on my own" Lord knows I've tried, but I'm good at falling down Thank God you're good at picking me up off the ground The world's gonna try to break me But I know the one who makes me Strong Oh-oh, strong I'm strong when I got nothing I'm strong even when I'm weak 'Cause the strong arms of my Savior Are holding on to me I hit my knees with my hands held high Saying, "Dear Lord, Jesus, you know I can't do this on my own I can't do this on my own" Lord knows I've tried, but I'm good at falling down Thank God you're good at picking me up off the ground The world's gonna try to break me But I know the one who makes me Strong Oh, You make me strong Oh, this world ain't gonna break me 'Cause I know the one who makes me Strong
